Batarang Poll: To Engrave or Not to Engrave?
almost 3 years ago – Sat, Jul 24, 2021 at 12:54:48 AM

DKR Fans,

One of the coolest parts of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns — The Game is the Batarang dice. If you’re going to play as Batman, throwing Batarangs every turn just seems perfect!

As promised during the campaign, our plan is to engrave the 11 Batarangs included with the game. In working with the factory, we have learned that to engrave them, we have to assemble each Batarang from THREE separate pieces. The middle/die portion will be engraved and then the two wings will be glued on. Why? If the Batarangs were manufactured as a single piece (as originally planned), the wings would break off during the engraving process. Below you can see a photo from the factory of the three pieces before being assembled and then a photo at our office of an assembled Batarang (without final color or engraved icons).

Given how much you use Batarangs in the game, we understand that having them assembled and glued from three pieces may make some of you a bit nervous. We can assure you that we will work hard on quality control and make sure that they are durable enough to withstand extensive gameplay.

STILL, before we move forward, we thought we’d turn to you, the backers, and give you the final call. Our motto is “Fans First,” so your voice means a lot to us. So, please take THIS POLL. It’s super simple. You have two choices:

  •  Option A: Engraved Batarang dice that are each assembled from three separate pieces
  •  Option B: Screen-printed Batarang dice that are each manufactured as one piece

We assure you either option will look fantastic. Option B will have a slight edge in durability, but Option A will be assembled and glued with utmost care. Either way, the other 35 dice in the game will all be engraved. Please let us know what you think by 4 pm PT on Friday.

To the Factory! Plus Miniature Samples: Batman & Allies
almost 3 years ago – Fri, Jul 16, 2021 at 09:30:07 PM

DKR Fans,

We have some awesome news: The game has been approved by our friends at Warner Bros. and files have been sent to the factory. We are on schedule to deliver by December, barring any unforeseen delays (if you’ve been following the news, freight issues may be unavoidable, but we’ll do everything we can to minimize them).

Even more cool news: We are starting to get samples from the factory of different components. Tooling for the figures is just about done and we received samples of Batman and his allies from the game. They look AMAZING! These aren’t final production miniatures, but the level of detail will be about the same. Check them out!

(Note: The top of Green Arrow’s bow had a bit of an office accident, but the final minis will be more durable).

We also received white box samples of the packaging (blank boxes without the final art/design) to approve and check out the size and weight. Here’s a photo of someone on our team (of above average height) holding the slipcase containing the two boxes. It’s massive… approximately 12.5 x 14.5 x 4.3 inches!

We have more updates coming over the next few weeks.

Thanks for your support!

Late Nights for The Dark Knight
almost 3 years ago – Wed, Jun 16, 2021 at 11:13:05 PM

DKR Fans,

We have been silent as of late and there’s a reason: Like The Dark Knight himself, our team has been completely focused on the mission at hand. Are we trying to save Gotham City from violence and corruption too? Well, no, but our goal is nearly as noble: We’re trying to make Batman: The Dark Knight Returns — The Game the best experience it can be.

Our team has been burning the midnight oil to make sure to hit our production deadlines. We’ve been working with our amazing designers— Morgan Dontanville and Daryl Andrews—and our talented editor Jeff Fraser to finalize all the gameplay details. Our in-house project managers and graphic designers have been putting their hearts into making sure everything looks and plays as well (if not better) than you expect.

The great news is that the game is done and with our good friends at Warner Bros. for final feedback and approvals. If everything goes according to plan, the factory will have all files in hand by the start of July. To tide you over in the meantime, here are a few never-before-seen images of cards—including some Kickstarter Exclusive ones!

Please note: We will be charging credit cards via BackerKit on July 1. This includes shipping, taxes, and any add-ons you selected.

We’ll have more updates soon, once we finish this latest sprint.
